Winter weather is here to stay for the next few months. How can you ensure your truck is running in tip-top shape during these cold and snowy days? We’ve got a few tips for you thanks to North Central International Service Directors Nate Meier and Kyle Reis.

Check your truck over before hitting the road.

Do a walk around every time you head out. Is everything free and clear of snow and ice? Are all your lights visible? Are all your tires properly inflated?

Test your block heater.

Ensuring your block heater works is the first key to success to getting your engine to start in cold weather extremes.  This will also ensure you are on the road sooner, as your engine will reach its optimal running temperature quicker.

Consider using a fuel additive.

To prevent your fuel filters from plugging with ice and keep your fuel from gelling, we recommend a diesel fuel additive. Fuel additives can push water out of your fuel system, increase lubricity and increase power and fuel economy. North Central International has a variety of options to choose from that are on sale through the end of January right now.

Switch your fluids.

If you are getting low on windshield wiper fluid, make sure you are switching it to a cold-weather blend made for lower temperatures. Don’t forget to consider switching out to a fresh set of wiper blades too.

Consider adding a winter front to your truck.

A winter front is optimal for ensuring and maintaining engine temperature during the harshest of climates all winter. Adding a winter front will also help with the effectiveness of the aftertreatment system during cold weather.

Schedule a service appointment with NCI for a cold weather maintenance check.

Let our trained service technicians check everything from your fuel filter to you air dryer and give recommendations for fuel additives and winter fronts. With a complete winter check-over, NCI will get your truck road-ready for any weather conditions you may encounter from snow to sleet.
